I’m Marcus Rutter, a tech-minded professional with a focus in Business Intelligence, Market Development, Research, Customer Success, and Education Administration. My work centers around creating smarter systems, solving operational problems, and protecting what matters most: people, data, and infrastructure.
Cybersecurity isn’t just a career interest for me; it’s something I genuinely care about. I’m passionate about protecting company assets, securing environments, and making sure the systems we build are safe, stable, and built to last. I hold the Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) credential through ISC2, and I’m certified in Microsoft Azure and as a Microsoft Certified IT Professional. I see cybersecurity as the foundation for trust in any organization, and I bring that mindset into every project I take on.
I’m also big on automation and AI. I love finding opportunities to reduce manual work, increase accuracy, and make processes more intuitive. Whether I’m designing automated workflows or integrating AI into existing systems, my goal is always to bring more efficiency and clarity to complex operations.
Alongside my hands-on experience, I hold certifications in Business Analytics from the Wharton School and in Professional Account Management from West Virginia University, and boast an Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, and soon, an MBA in Cybersecurity & Risk Management. These help me bridge the gap between strategy and execution, between what businesses want to achieve and how technology can get them there.
What motivates me most is the way technology and business shape, and are shaped by, the world around us. I’m always looking at the bigger picture; how systems interact with social, political, and organizational dynamics, and how we can build solutions that are secure, scalable, and forward-thinking.
Outside of work, I’m someone who finds a lot of joy in the little things; fresh air, new ideas, and the thrill of learning something I didn’t know yesterday. I love exploring the wilderness of West Virginia and the Eastern United States. Hiking trails, scenic overlooks, quiet woods, they’ve all become a place for me to recharge and reconnect.
I’m also the kind of person who’s always learning. Whether it’s self-studying a new topic, experimenting with a project, or diving into formal education, I genuinely enjoy expanding what I know. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sciences, Business, and Information Systems, an Associate’s in Business Administration, and I’m less than 30 days away from completing my MBA in Cybersecurity & Risk Management; something I’m really proud of.
When I’m not deep into a project or learning something new, I’m usually spending time with my wife and our dog. They keep me grounded and remind me to enjoy the moment. And yes, I do enjoy a solid gaming session when I can squeeze it in. I’ve always had a passion for gaming, from building custom PCs for friends and family to managing an Esports Lab in an academic setting. If there’s a way to be involved in that world, I’m all in.
I’m also a huge fan of data and systems, I’ve earned the nickname “Excel geek” more times than I can count, and I proudly claim my “Power BI nerd” status. There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking raw, chaotic information and turning it into something visual, useful, and clear.
Cars, especially electric ones, have a special place in my heart, too. Where others just see another model year, I see the tweaks, improvements, and details that show a journey toward innovation and excellence.
More than anything, I love connecting with people and discovering new perspectives. Whether it’s through conversation, collaboration, or shared experience, I believe that growth comes from being open- open to learning, open to change, and open to the world around us.
